Each month, we spotlight one approach — with a reflective opening and a short closing invitation to join the ongoing conversation. If something here stirred you, we’d love to hear from you. Reply, respond, reflect. This is a dialogue, not a dispatch.
I have spent more than four decades sitting across from human beings in the most intimate of spaces — in different caring approaches from internal medicine, psychiatry, radiology , microbiology, manual medicine to psychotherapy rooms.
And still, after all these years, I find myself undone by the same mystery that drew me to this work in the beginning: the extraordinary courage it takes to be known. To allow another person — a partner, a family member, a therapist — to witness your interior world without flinching, without fleeing.
This month’s reflection began, as many of the richest ones do, not in a consultation room or a lecture hall, but in the quiet hours of walking and sitting meditation. Two faces surfaced — not as memories to be filed away, but as what Martin Buber would call living presences. Not the I-It of archived recollection, cold and catalogued, but the I-Thou of a relationship that continues to breathe and shape, long after the physical meeting has passed.
